Sweden Arriving from Oslo we spent the night in Karlstad. The hotel only had single rooms, so we took two.
On the way to Stockholm we passed by a quaint off-the-road coffee shop and its funny 'beware of the cats' sign. I was thinking of Tiger and Starlette, me sweet kitties at home.
We reached Stockholm for a visit of the old town which was chock-a-block with tourists enjoying a sunny day. There were way too many junky tourist shops on the main streets and almost nobody on the side streets.
That evening we stayed in a modern apartment/hotel in the north suburbs around the corner from where friends lived and had a lovely Swedish dinner with them. They served us great schnapps and we all forgot to take pictures.
From Stockholm to the lovely university town of Lund is basically a full day of freeway driving.
The smallest hotel room we had during the entire trip was just outside of beautiful Lund in an industrial zone in a chain hotel. It was cheap, clean, functional but tiny.
Dinner was on a cobblestoned square as the sun lowered but barely set. Then it rained. Fortunately, there were huge umbrellas and we scampered to the car between the raindrops.
Joseph Kepler used Tycho Brahe's measurements to determine planetary motion.
So we stopped by the place where Brahe started those measurements: Uraniborg on the island of Hven which was then Denmark, and is now Sweden.
There's not nothing left of the splendid Uraniborg. The local peasants quickly dismantled Tycho's castle as revenge for the feudal exploitation he imposed on them to build it.
The small museum and ten-minute show above the foundation stones of his observatory and garden with Brahe's statue were a highlight of our visit to the island of Ven.
It's also a splendid place to cycle. There are nearly 2,000 bikes for hire on the island and we rode along the bike paths in glorious sunshine.
The sage is nearly finished. On to Denmark.
