Restaurant: Lo Güeno - Malaga Spain
August 2007
By Linda Thalman
The best tapas restaurant in Malaga has to be Lo Güeno.
We were wandering the around the lovely historic center of Malaga just before noon and Pierre's nose said, "This is the place for lunch!".
But they weren't open yet... around 12:30 or 13:00 we were told.
So our stroll continued for a bit, and then we grabbed one of the very few tables outside at 12:50.
We had the most delightful tapas, Spanish wines and excellent service on one heck of a hot day in southern Spain.
Gaspacho, mussles, spicy chicken, mushrooms... so many, too many choices and all excellent.
In the evening when the shops and boutiques have closed there are more tables outside and the summer heat subsides.
Lo Güeno was jam packed at 22:00 as we strolled by again for a fond look before heading to bed and flying back to Paris the following day.
Travel Tip: Don't miss the Picasso Museum in Malaga before of after lunch.
The museum, in the historic center of Malaga, is a haven of peace and quite as well as being air-conditioned.
The painting collection is worth the visit even though I wouldn't say it was outstanding.

London UK Restaurant: Rasoi Vineet Bhatia
June 2006
By Linda ThalmanFor the best Indian restaurant in all of London, do book a table at Rasoi.
It's a two-minute walk from Sloan Square and the food is simply fabulous.
I've not been to India, but Vineet Bhatia has brought India to England and it has been awarded one star by the Michelin Guide.
My partner, Pierre, and I had taken the Eurostar for a day in London. Our main goals were: shopping for books and towels, visiting the British Museum and having a great lunch.
With dishes like these:
Tandoori cauliflower in spicy marinade infused with Kasoori methi, red onion relish Crispy asparagus with ginger and chilli khichdi, green herb chutney and chilli oil Slow cooked Kashmiri lamb Rogan Josh, saffron pulao rice Pineapple salad with sweet spices, pineapple and cardamom sorbet you simply can't go wrong.
I would say the cocktails were a tad expensive at 8 Pounds each, and the wine list is - as always in the U.K. - on the high side. We choose the only Indian wine on the list and it was perfect.
If only we had such a good Indian restaurant in Paris!

Piemonte Italy - Al Rododendro Restaurant
August 2002
By Linda ThalmanWe picked the smallest mountain pass we could find on the map to cross into Italy. We were not disappointed. The Col de Lombardi was a 45 kilometer one-car wide maintained road that zigged and zagged through beautiful scenery. Our French and English guide books had nothing to say about Piemonte... fortunately the Guide Rouge for Italy showed not one, but TWO one-star restaurants in a village called Boves, outside of Cuneo.
Exhausted from hairpin turns all afternoon, we arrived at 19:00 at Al Rododendro restaurant and - miraculously - they are also an albergo. Our beautiful room and ensuite modern bathroom with shower cost an unbelievably economical 46 euros.
The dining room was rather formal, but the friendly, attentitive and professional service set us at ease. Fresh flowers, a candle at the table, soft lighting... Perfect.
The 50 euro 'menu terroir' was simply outstanding. A truffle starter, followed by the most delicate crepes with salmon and cream set the tone for this meal. Melt in your mouth ravioli gallina (chicken) came next. Then pigeon with a honey and balsamic vinegar sauce with a flower bouquet shaped presentation of finely chopped vegetables. Then local cheeses. I had a fruit dessert with raspberries, red currents, blueberries and blackberries and Pierre was in seventh heaven with the saffran ice cream and chocolate sauce dessert he chose.
Vive l'Italie!
