Teaching English in France
By Linda Thalman
To make a long story short: without European Union (EU) citizenship and/or financial means, it isn't easy to get a job of any kind in France. Teachers of English as a foreign language in France in the private sector are somewhat in demand, but it is not very well paid in many cases: 15 to 30 euros per hour.
It is very helpful to be fluent in spoken French if you want to live, work, teach and enjoy France to the fullest.
To find a job teaching English in France it is very useful to have experience in the field of teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL).
Much of the teaching in the private sector (formation continue) requires skills in teaching business and communication skills: telephone English, meetings, presentations, socializing, negotiating, attending conferences, writing proposals and documents, etc.
Preparing students for the TOEIC test of English is another possible skill area of interest. If you're not familiar with the Test Of English For International Communication, review the TOEIC site here: http://www.toeic.eu/
So -- be sure to include your EFL, business English and test preparation training qualifications on your C.V./resumé.
Consult with the nearest French Embassy (on or offline!) for the 'offical' rules, regulations and hoops you'll need to go through.

http://www.volterre-fr.com/In a past life I was an EFL teacher. My definition of a qualified EFL teacher in France includes:
- Formal academic training in EFL/TEFL
- Experience in the classroom for the age group of the students
- Familiarity with the most up-to-date materials
- Ability to develop tailor-made/personalized teaching/learning materials
- Participation in professional EFL organizations (TESOL and/or IATEFL)
- Fluency in French
- Awareness of British English (pronunciation, grammar, spelling, vocabulary)
Teaching is a wonderfully rewarding profession. Being a professional in your job is as well. I honestly don't know many rich teachers even though every French person knows the expression, "My tailor/teacher is rich!"
Best of luck.
