Versailles Potager du Roi

Threatening skies heralded our visit to the Potager du Roi in Versailles.

The fruit and vegetable garden was build between 1678 and 1683 by Jean-Baptiste La Quintinie for Louis XIV.

Delicate flowers and baby fruit were on the pear and apple trees in late April.

There's a nice collection of herbs and garden vegetables. These and seasonal fruits are sold in the boutique as well as other bio products, books, postcards and more.

The Potager du Roi isn't on the grounds of the Versailles castle. It is, however, in a very pretty part of Versailles near the St Louis cathedral.

For a pleasant stroll through the history of fruits and vegetables, do visit this delightful French historic monument.
